Swiss Medical Network (SMN)
Context
The healthcare sector significantly contributes to the climate crisis, responsible for 4.4% of global emissions, with Switzerland’s healthcare footprint alone accounting for 6.8% of national emissions. Employees and patients increasingly demand sustainable practices, questioning excessive packaging and expecting local, organic options. Swiss Medical Network (SMN) responded to these expectations by launching a comprehensive sustainability strategy in two phases: in Phase 1, SMN defined a strategic sustainability framework; in Phase 2, SMN focused on coordinating and accelerating the strategy’s implementation to inspire engagement from internal teams and external partners.
Solution
NewElement supported SMN in both phases of this initiative. In Phase 1, NewElement collaborated with SMN to design the group’s sustainability strategy, establishing strategic pillars and detailed roadmaps. In Phase 2, NewElement acted as a coach and catalyst, guiding SMN’s Chief Sustainability Officer in implementing the sustainability action plan. This included assessing SMN’s sustainability positioning through benchmarking, identifying gaps and opportunities, and establishing strategic objectives. Additionally, NewElement provided coaching, training, and brand positioning to strengthen SMN’s visibility and credibility in ESG.
